2nd Catalan cinema review

Rome is preparing to host the second edition of the Mostra Talents Emergents del Cinema Català, an event that will immerse viewers in an exciting viewing through four short films.

Organized by the Associació Catalans in Rome and with the collaboration of Films en Off, this film exhibition will take place on Saturday 25 November at 6.30pm.

The four short films selected, La Masia, Llodrigons, Santorini and Sisè Primera, have participated in La Mercantil en Off Film Festival, the short film festival held annually at Sala Mercantil de Balaguer and are a representation of the diversity of styles that produce in Catalan cinema.

La Masia is a short film written and directed by Víctor Català, in which we find Helga spending a few days with her grandparents, whom she has not seen for years. They are two sinister old men who live in a huge farmhouse lost in the middle of nowhere. The little girl will discover that something strange is happening when her grandmother sends her a coded message using the letter soup.

On the other hand, we have Sisè Primera by Albert Carbó, which introduces us to Fina, the owner of a block of flats in Barcelona. He has put one of his flats up for rent and arranged a visit with different potential tenants. Will they all have the same opportunities?

Llodrigons, on the other hand, shows us the hatred and despair that Joanet feels towards his father for having forced him to hunt a rabbit. This is a story by Joana Antonín, inspired by reality.

Finally, in “Santorini, the paradise of parkour”, by Biel Masià, we will see two athletes of this sport embark on an adventure towards the Greek island to jump through this paradise of white and blue roofs, thus showing the essence of this sport and a way of life.

This year, the exhibition seeks to expand its impact and continue to promote the emergence of Catalan cinema in the Italian capital. The Associazione Culturale Settimo Continente becomes the perfect host for this event that highlights the importance of cultural diversity. It will also feature a talk on script by Alessia Rotondo and Marcel Buisan, who has also been one of the promoters of this show since its origins.

This second edition promises to consolidate its position as a window to the cultural and artistic wealth of Catalonia, bringing to Rome a night full of cinema, reflection and connection with the various narratives that Catalan cinema can offer. An essential appointment for lovers of the seventh art in the Eternal City!
