The second edition of the Showcase of Emerging Talents of Catalan Cinema, an event organized by the Association of Catalans in Rome with the collaboration of Films en Off, was successfully held on Saturday 25. The film showcase began at half past six with a presentation by the president of the Association of Catalans in Rome, Amanda Buisan, and Marcel Buisan, screenwriter and film director. The event served to inaugurate the new headquarters of the Association Catalans in Rome, located in the space of the Associazione Culturale Settimo Conttinente.
The assistants had the opportunity to enjoy four outstanding short films; La Masia, Llodrigons, Santorini and Sexto primera, selected by the festival La Mercantil en Off Film Festival. This selection, which represents the diversity of styles in Catalan cinema, lasted approximately one hour.
Afterwards, the audience took part in an interesting conference given by Alessia Rotondo, film, television and web writer and responsible for the selection and international relations of the Pentedattilo Film Fest. During the conference, a scene from Badia’s short film, directed by Marcel Buisan, was visualized and there was a debate on how to make a long story can be synthesized in a short film thanks to the audiovisual language. The difficulties in the production of the short film were also discussed with Josep Oller, who also participated in the debate. Another highlight of the conference was the discussion on how to work with artificial intelligence in relation to automatic translations of subtitles and how to make good use of them.
All in all, the evening on November 25 was a great success, with the Associazione Culturale Settimo Contintente as the perfect host for this event that seeks to promote Catalan cinema. The second edition lived up to expectations and the hope is to continue to bring to Rome evenings full of Catalan cinema next year.
